Modern Built Environment

Meeting the Challenge

Location:

NG Bailey's head office, Denton Hall in Ilkley

Date:

Cost:

Free

Description:

With the UK built environment responsible for around 45 per cent of the UK's carbon emissions and construction activities generating 32 per cent of landfill, the industry is under unprecedented pressure for change. Forthcoming legislation requires all homes to be level 6 (carbon zero) by 2016 but to have reached level 4 by 2013, and all non-domestic buildings to have followed suit
by 2019. This will only be achievable through fundamental redesign and new technologies.

With such challenges come great opportunities.
The AEM Innovation Network and the MBE KTN are hosting an event to help companies understand and capitalise upon these opportunities. The event will focus on four main themes, all of which are central to meeting the future challenges:

Getting the building fabric right - e.g. insulation materials, glass technology etc

Bringing the building to life - e.g. combined heat and power, alternative energy,
low energy lighting

New ways of constructing to exploit new technologies and guarantee of quality -
e.g. off-site and modular manufacturing

It's not just new buildings that count - addressing the issues around the
significant existing stock of buildings

Following a series of keynote speakers from across the industry, delegates will get a chance to exchange knowledge on existing and potential development areas. This event is the perfect platform to raise your needs, showcase your technologies and find partners for future R&D collaborations.
The AEM Innovation Network will also provide support on the innovation process and selective guidance on accessing funding to accelerate your development programmes.
