Description:

The 2008 Sheffield Metallurgical and Engineering Association conference will be held in the recently opened facilities at The Endcliffe Village, University of Sheffield. The aim of the conference is to explore the effect of hot rolling and forging processes on the quality and performance of a range of steels and high duty alloys. Five technical sessions will explore process developments and their influence on product quality, how the hot working process can be optimised to influence microstructure and properties, and new technologies.

Dr Derek Allen, Alstom Power will set the scene by examining the challenges associated with advanced power generation, while Dr Jean-Claude Carbonnier, ESTEP and Christian Marique, CRM close the conference with their presentation ‘European Steel Response to World Challenges'.

A highlight of the event is the SMEA Celebrity Lecture ‘The Tatas - Aspiration and Innovation' which will be presented by Dr Tridibesh Mukherjee, Group Director, Technology and Integration, Tata Steel - Corus on the evening of Tuesday 17th June. This will be followed by a buffet supper.
