We are seeking a capable, enthusiastic and responsive individual to join our growing business development team. The position will involve the identification, formulation and securing of a range of public and private sector business opportunities in support of the Advanced Engineering and Metals (AEM) sector.

You will be an articulate communicator with a demonstrable track record of achievement in business development. You will be a self-motivated, customer focused professional, with a proven ability to identify and secure large scale research and/or knowledge transfer contracts. With at least 3 years experience in such a role, you will bring exceptional bid writing skills to the job, together with the ability to develop and implement a business growth strategy. Your background, experience and knowledge will allow you to fully engage with technical customers, enabling you to develop and propose tailored technical solutions. You will also have an understanding and experience of a variety of business development techniques, including market segmentation, competitor analysis, lead generation and formal proposal writing.

As an individual, you will be capable of engaging with a broad range of people of differing levels of understanding, regardless of background or status. You will appreciate the importance of personal interaction, enabling you to fit in well to the organisation. You will bring a creative approach to the role whilst maintaining professional levels of task management.


THE ROLE:

• Oversee and drive selected aspects of business development activities;
• Take responsibility for the development and implementation of targeted business growth strategies to meet defined income targets;
• Lead on the development of business relationships with target stakeholders;
• Develop and grow a sales pipeline, taking full responsibility for proposal development from concept generation to contract negotiation;
• Provide regular progress reports against defined income targets.


THE REQUIREMENTS:

• A minimum of degree qualified in a science or engineering field;
• A strong track record of quantifiable success and achievement in business development (3+ years);
• A knowledge and understanding of the AEM sector or similar;
• A pro-active approach to developing long term client relationships;
• An articulate communicator, both verbally and in writing;
• A good understanding of converting opportunities;
• Capable of defining and implementing a business growth strategy;
• Experienced in using business and market development tools;
• Good market intelligence gathering abilities;
• Charismatic personality capable of inspiring and motivating those around you.
