AMTI

Advanced Metals Technology Initiative

The Advanced Metals Technology Initiative (AMTI) is a £10million multi-strand programme funded jointly by Yorkshire Forward, the DTI, ERDF Objective 1 and private sector contributions. The programmes objective was to aid the development and application of new technologies and improved products and processes to improve the performance of companies within the metals industry. The programme is divided into four strands and delivered through a network of leading organisations within the metals sector.

  1. Rapid Product Innovation in High Performance Castings
  2. Rapid Cycle Manufacture of Forged Components (Toolform)
  3. Simulation of Metal Forming Process
  4. IFG (Metals) – Funding and Support Programme (South Yorkshire)

Overall, AMTI was managed by the National Metals Technology Centre (NAMTEC) but relied heavily upon the sub-contracted involvement of Castings Technology International (Cti) and TWI.

Many companies have made real cost savings and increased profitability using technologies developed through the AMTI programme. These technologies can be transferred into many businesses and industry sectors. The project has already created increased sales of over £24.5million. It has safeguarded 440 jobs and created 48 new ones.

Although funding support for the programme is complete, the technologies developed within the AMTI programme continue to be available.
