Message from the CEO

The National Metals Technology Centre (NAMTEC) was established to improve the competitiveness and sustainability of the metals and related engineering industries throughout the UK. We have endeavoured to do this by developing an organisation of the highest calibre that is able to provide an innovative technical support programme to these industries and deliver direct economic benefit to the UK's manufacturing base.

A key part of NAMTEC's role is to facilitate the transfer of technical information and knowledge between industry and academia, to the mutual benefit of both parties. Our work in this area has led to the creation of new industry-academic partnerships and the creation of a series of collaborative research programmes ranging from the development of high strength magnesium alloys for automotive applications through to the introduction of novel metal-polymer composite structures into the construction sector.

Importantly, NAMTEC also provides a focal point for the UK's vast range of technical expertise in the design, production, fabrication and application of metals. By connecting companies with specialist support and advice NAMTEC has significantly improved the productivity of individual companies and the sector as a whole.

Since 2005 NAMTEC has also delivered an extensive education and training programme to industry that has made a significant contribution to enhancing the skills base of the sector and improving the quantity and quality of highly skilled workers.

We are proud of our achievements to date, and continually strive to further enhance the quality and breadth of services that we provide, to ensure that we continue to offer the highest level of support to the sector.
